When I migrated from Cambodia to Australia, I was living with my aunt and her family. My grandmother would visit often. remnants of her resided within the garden of the home. From homesickness to comfort, the herbs, fruits, and flowers helped me find solace and regained connection to my roots.

through the use of vibrant complimentary colours and bold lines - depictions of lemongrass, chilli and holy basil were used as motifs for this textile collection.

FABRIC SWATCHES

fabric swatches were intuitively hand painted and screen printed with monochromatic pigments of green, violet, and yellow orange.

*the final results of the fabric swatches very much resembled the pattern and material my grandmother use wear.

ILLUSTRATIONS

hand rendered illustrations were designed in a repeat swatch “pattern” style as a textile design method. mediums include watercolour paints, gouache, colour pencil and a layered paper technique in ordered to create the desired textures and depth

COLOUR STUDY

monochromatic tones of violet, yellow, and green were studied to create depth and texture within the hand rendered illustrations. Intuitive drawings of lemongrass, chilli, and holy basil motifs with a focus on organic shapes and movements.
